How to install an IPTV player on Android TV or Google TV
The install takes a minute. The part everyone dreads — typing a 20-character password with a remote — can be skipped entirely.
First, what you have
“Android TV” and “Google TV” are the same system with two interfaces. Both have the Play Store, both run the same apps. What you own is probably one of:
- A television with Android TV or Google TV built in (Sony, Philips, TCL, Hisense…)
- A box or dongle: Nvidia Shield, Chromecast with Google TV, Xiaomi Mi Box, Nokia Streaming Box
- A cheap generic box that claims Android TV but has no Play Store — common, and handled below
Method 1 — from the television (simplest)
- Open the Play Store on the television
- Search Aquar Player — the voice button on the remote is quicker than the on-screen keyboard
- Install, then open
The app appears in the Android TV launcher afterwards, in the apps row, not buried in a settings menu.
Method 2 — from your phone (the comfortable one)
Fewer people know this and it is the better route. On your phone, open the Play Store listing of the app, tap Install, and in the device selector choose your television instead of your phone. Google pushes the install to the TV; a minute later the app is there. Nothing typed with a remote.
Method 3 — a box without the Play Store
Cheap boxes sometimes ship without Google services. You then install the APK by hand:
- Allow installs from unknown sources, in Settings → Security or Settings → Apps
- Copy the APK to a USB stick and open it with the box's file manager
- Or install a downloader app and enter the direct link to the APK

Now the part that matters: your playlist
A Xtream password looks like s8a18p3wt8. Entering that with a directional pad, one character at a time on a grid keyboard, is how people give up on IPTV.
Do this instead. Open Aquar Player once on the television. It displays a Device ID and a Device Key. On your phone, go to aquarplayer.com/manage, enter those two short codes, and paste your playlist there — with a real keyboard, or straight from the WhatsApp message your provider sent. The television picks it up at the next launch.
Which details to enter
If your provider gave you a server, username and password, use the Xtream Codes tab — you get posters, categories, series and the programme guide. If you only have a long link ending in get.php?username=…, paste it in the M3U tab; the app recognises the pattern and switches to the API by itself. When it does not work

A quick word on the remote
Once installed, everything works with the directional pad: up and down through categories, right into the grid, OK to play, back to leave. If a player forces you to aim a mouse cursor on a television, it was not designed for one — and you will feel it every evening.
